1, Is it safe to travel to Laos?

A: Laos is a very safe country to visit in the region. Tourist areas have been improved to accommodate visitors, but do not forget to be cautious of personal valuable items just like when you’re travelling to any destinations in the world.

While towns like Luang Prabang and Vientiane are safe to wander around, there are certain areas in Laos remain off-limits because of unexploded ordnance left over from decades of warfare.

Currently, because of the pandemic’s effect, there is no timeline for reopening the border to visitors yet!

2,  Do I need a visa for Laos?

A: You won’t need to arrange Laos Visa in advance as thirty-day visas are now available on arrival at International airport of Vientiane, Luang Prabang and Pakse. Visas can be obtained prior to arrival from Lao embassies and consulates abroad, through a tour company recognized by the Lao PDR, or on arrival at the international checkpoint.

The visas must be used within three months of being issued, but the validity of the visa starts from the day of entry into Laos. Tourist & business visas last for 30 days and can be extended twice for 30 days each time, ideally through travel agencies.

Notes: Upon entering Laos, please ensure that you receive an entry stamp in your passport, as the fine for not having one is high.

What you need are:

› A Passport valid within 6 months

› Three photos (5×4 cm)  in color, front view and with a plain/white background.

› US $45 Cash for tourist visa fee (Paid directly to the Immigration).
