Learn about the ethnic minorities in the Golden Triangle –  the red-clothed Palaung tribe, the Akha people, the Wa tribe, the Loi tribe and the Li Shaw people. End the trip by watching a traditional Lan Woan dance performance with pretty Khun girls in Loi Lone village.

Arrive in Kengtung, Myanmar’s gateway to the Golden Triangle. Meet your guide and transfer to hotel. Visit Lane Tree Hill for panoramic views over Kengtung. The town, often compared to Chiang Mai 50 years ago, is a treasure trove of traditional architecture with old-style houses and their intricately designed wooden balconies so characteristic of Shan architecture. After visiting a local Shan lacquer ware factory, visit Maha Myat Muni Pagoda, the holiest in Kengtung.

Overnight in Kengtung

After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll take on a full-day excursion to explore the many and still very traditional ethnic minority communities of the Golden Triangle area. A 45–minute drive from Kengtung is Wam Pauk, the home of the red-clothed Palaung tribe. An easy trek of 15 minutes will lead to Hwe Lon, a village of the Akha people. Continue walking to Koum Ma, a Wa tribe village. Stop for lunch at Pin Tauk Waterfall near a Lahu village.

In the afternoon, you’ll meet with the elusive Ann minority. Return to Kengtung.

We had a wonderful experience. Gina, from Asia Pioner Travel did an excellent job, she made a perfect schedule, everything was so well organized, all the places we visited were spectacular, all the guides she assigned were very kind, and knew the places perfectly. The whole logistic was very well done: flights, transportation, hotels, food. Gina gave it a good follow up since the first time we got in touch. She organized the whole trip based on our needs and favorite places to visit. We really enjoyed the trip and are very thankful to her and the company.

Vietnam North to South in 15 days

We booked a 15-day trip to Vietnam in May 2025, and it truly exceeded all my expectations. From our very first What’s App planning call to the moment we arrived back home, everything was smooth and stress-free — all thanks to Cherry Duong at Asia Pioneer Travel. She handled every detail with care and professionalism, making the whole process seamless. We met with Cheery along the way and she was always available on What’s App throughout the trip.

Cherry was attentive, flexible, and really took the time to understand what we wanted from our trip. The places she recommended and the tours she arranged were perfectly tailored to our interests. We travelled from north to south without a single hiccup — everything was taken care of, from airport transfers and domestic flights to accommodations. All we had to do was arrive and enjoy.

We experienced things we never would have thought to book ourselves — from vibrant street food tours and boat rides along the Mekong Delta to seaplanes flights over Halong Bay and cycling through villages and rice paddies in Hoi An. Having local guides who were warm, funny, and incredibly knowledgeable brought the culture to life in such a meaningful way.

Trying to explore a new country in a short timeframe can be overwhelming, but working with Asia Pioneer Travel allowed us to experience so much more than we imagined. I would highly recommend them to anyone wanting to get the most out of their travel experience.
