Duong Dai Lam put together a 30 day custom trip for ourselves and another couple. He was incredibly accommodating, responsive and reliable. There was not anything that we asked of him that he wasn’t able to do, even things above and beyond what you would normally expect from any travel agent. We found him honest, reliable and knowledgeable. He was excellent and I will give him the highest possible rating.

First of all I would like to thank Quyen and all his guides and drivers, they were all exceptional.

After trying to book our once in a lifetime holiday via the local (Australian ) travel agencies and realising our budget did not extend as far as we would have liked, I searched the net and found Asia Pioneer and how glad were we that we did. With no haggling or compromise we had a quote for the 5 star trip through Vietnam and Cambodia that we hoped for within our budget and covering everything.

I have never dealt directly with an overseas agent so I was a little apprehensive, would we get to Hanoi there after handing over our cash to find nothing booked and no-one to meet us. So before booking I read through the reviews on here and thought it all sounded good. The booking was made and we had all our queries answered over the phone or promptly via email. Best service ever, Australian agents have a bit to learn here.

We had a 28 day itinerary, from Hanoi (including Halong Bay) to Hue, Hoi An (Including the Mekong Delta) into Cambodia, Siem Reap, then Phnom Penh, then Ko Kong and the 4 rivers Floating Eco Lodge, finished off by relaxing on Ko Chang island Thai Land and the obligatory “One Night in Bangkok” . It is extensive itinerary and way too involved to type her, if you would like a copy let me know and I can email, or contact Quyen to build your own.
I will try to do more detailed reviews of each stop on our journey when I find the time but in general the trip was absolutely AWSEOME.

Vietnam and Cambodia are amazing countries, each beautiful in their own right, both with such interesting, if sometimes very sad history. The people of both countries are so friendly and welcoming, of course we took all the usual precautions, but I can honestly say we never felt in any danger, well except crossing the road the first few times maybe.

Due to work commitments we were forced to travel just out of the peak season, but we believe it was the best time to be there, mid May to mid June, although hot (when isn’t it), we had very little rainy days, it did rain a few evenings, but nothing too extreme and never impacted on our itinerary or enjoyment. The only time we encountered any major queues into attractions was the Ho Chi Min mausoleum, but it was his birthday and the queue was full locals paying their respect, it actually made the visit more enjoyable.

This is a review of Asia Pioneer as a travel agent and all I really need to say in professional, well priced and you should at least give them a try if you are planning to travel to this region, we will use them again.

The only thing we would like to have been included in our experience is, a little more time being absorbed into the local experience, eating what and where our guides ate etc, I would have like to try the guides favourite Pho stall and coffee shop for example. But in their defence we had booked a 5 star trip and the places we were eating were excellent.

Our trip was amazing as we fell in love with Vietnam and Cambodia! The itinerary that Lam set up for the four of us was tailored to perfection, starting out in the old french quarter of Hanoi. After 4 days there it just got more fabulous as we traveled in our own lovely private van (a/c) towards Halong Bay for 2 nights and 3 days cruising on a beautiful boat viewing this incredible Unesco World Heritage site! Some of the best food was served daily very impressive. From there we traveled towards the south to Hue and Hoi An, both cities amazing! Then to Saigon. I would like to say the trip was enhanced by our personal guides, their knowledge of history, their stories and the smiles, this includes our drivers too! From there we flew to Siem Reap, Cambodia, and truly words do not convey the beauty one sees and experiences here. I will never forget this journey,
I also need to say every one of our accommodations were superb with extremely friendly and helpful staff and every bed VERY comfy, every room spacious and clean! Thank you so much Lam!

I was a little worried about booking our Halong Bay Cruise online but decided to email Mr Lam after reading these reviews on Tripadvisor. Mr Lam got back to me straight away and booked us a 3 day 2 night cruise on the Paradise Cruise line. Mr Lam was so patient with all my questions and always responded very promptly to my emails. He was so enthusiatic and I honestly cannot recommend him highly enough.

We booked the tour as part of a trip where we went to Thailand and Laos and one thing which worried when booking was the payment not being made securely but with Lam we used One Pay and it was very quick and secure without us having to email anyone our card details or having to give them any money.

Our trip was actually cancelled in the end as there was a typhoon when we were in Hanoi, but Mr Lam came personally to tell us at our hotel. He offered to bring the money in cash in the afternoon but we asked him to refund the money through One Pay as we didn’t want to carry the cash around on our travels. He advised us straight away that it would take a while to do but was in constant contact with us until we confirmed we had received the money which was about a month later.

I think it is rare to find a company who provides such excellent customer service and would definitely recommend them to anyone in future. We will definitely be using them if we ever go back to Vietnam and would like to thank Lam for putting up with all of my questions and amusing us with his funny emails – he even sent us wishes for Mother’s Day in Vietnam and a Vietnamese Happy Mother’s Day song to send to our mums! I think meeting Lam was one of the things my boyfriend was most looking forward to by the time we started out on our travels!

An official goverment website. Me made our custom tour to vietnam and cambodia with Asia Pioneer. Van is our tour consultant from indhochina pioneer. she is a wonderful person. We talk by email, She gave her opinion to my own plan and we arranged our tour together until i decided what suit me.
At the final confirmation, she emailed me brief schedule include the list what include and not.
Van always make sure that every tour we did just as same as our plan.

The car that pick us up and take us everywhere is as good as in the picture they sent us by email.
Van also prepare printed airline ticket and visa form for us when we went to cambodia.

We used Asia Pioneers to plan our trip to Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand. Lam did a spectacular job! We used his itinerary as a framework and then upgraded all of the hotels, which, while very very nice, were still inexpensive. Everything Lam arranged went flawlessly. The drivers were always on time and so courteous. They were flexible if and when we wanted to adjust the schedule, such as stopping at a local food market or going back to the hotel for a rest. We really enjoyed our guides as well. We had the pleasure of meeting Viet in Hanoi. He was a blast and treated us to amazing local foods and history. He wasn’t afraid to discuss local politics or opinions which was fascinating. In Ho Chi Min and the Mekong Delta we thoroughly enjoyed Lucy. She gave us insight into women and family issues as well as history and cultural awareness. In Hoi An we enjoyed Lam. He was very flexible and knowledgeable about history. The food tours were amazing and we tasted some culinary delights we never would have tried without the guidance of our guides. The beach resort was gorgeous and the water warm and clean. We loved the bike ride to the agricultural district where we were able to work the fields. The restaurant we stopped at was probably our favorite. The chef was willing to talk with us at length and share recipes.
Cambodia was an unexpected pleasure as well. I fell in love with Cambodia. The kindness of the people and the temple treasures were beyond words. We fell in love with these counties because we had the privilege to offer an ear to listen to their life stories. How grateful we were that they were willing to share. Such resilience and strength. Our guide told us to call him “Lucky”. He was fabulous too! Easy going and flexible!!
Our last stop was in Thailand. Here we met our guide Micky. He was really fun. We followed the itinerary which we thought would be too much but Micky kept a nice pace and continually fed us local delights such as mango sticky rice! Everything was great.
The only thing we may have done differently was to take a boat from the Mekong delta to Cambodia to avoid a long drive back to Danang. Plus it would have been interesting to tour via boat. Overall the trip was perfect. Highly recommend Lam. We will use him again for other trips!!

Mr. Lam was extremely attentive and sensitive to all our needs and whims. We made many last minute changes and additions which he cheerfully accommodated. The guides and drivers he provided were the best in our experience. Highest recommendation!
